What an earth is a "neutral spine"

A "neutral spine"  is the term  exercise professionals use to describe a good postural position.  This postural positioning helps to support the spine correctly during any physical and non physical activity.  A neautral spine, in reality should be adopted at all times until it becomes second nature! So what is a Neutral Spine?  There are three natural curves in a healthy spine.  1.   The neck or cervical spine, curves gently inward (lordosis) 2.   The mid back, or thoracic spine, is curved outward (kyphosis) 3.   The low back, or lumbar spine, also curves inward  (lordosis) By keeping the position of this position you not only assist with cushioning your spine from any excess strain or sprain, you also help to stabilise the spine during all activities. The natural curves of your spine are made up by muscles, ligaments, and tendons that attache to the vertebra of your spine   How can I adopt the neutral spine position? Firstly:  Lie on you back with your knees bent, and feet flat on the floor.  Your spine should have two areas that do not have contact with the floor the neck, and the lower back. Now try adopting the same position standing to one side whilst looking in the mirror, and then whilst sitting.  All it takes is a little practise, soon it will become a part of your every day practise! Simple!
